The U.S. Treasury has released images of a redesigned $100 bill with new, Bladerunner-esque security features. Benjamin Franklin now consorts with a blue 3D security ribbon and a "bell in the inkwell" security stamp whose color fluctuates from copper to green (watch a video preview below). While Gawker's Hamilton Nolan damned the futuristic new look as "embarrassingly colorful" — "it looks like a god damn child's crayon scratch pad" — other critics embraced the redesign, which will enter circulation next February: "This is money that tells you it is coming from the future," says Alex Balk at The Awl. "It's... confident and a little aggressive." Matt Kiebus at Death + Taxes is also dazzled: "The United States Treasury just made the most complicated piece of currency my eyes have ever seen," he says. "It's new, it's shiny, I want it." Here's an FX-heavy video from the U.S. Treasury outlining the changes:

White House staff brings kids to work

WASHINGTON – Michelle Obama told a group of curious kids visiting the White House Thursday about her daughter Malia's most frequent question about Dad's job: What's he doing to help tigers?

Asked about her family's favorite animal, the first lady said they talk about tigers at least once a week, because Malia, 11, is concerned about what President Barack Obama is doing to save the endangered animals.

"He tells her he's working on it and there are a lot of people who are thinking about it," she said. "But I think, the Obama household, we're trying to save the tigers."

Mrs. Obama spent about an hour taking queries from children of executive office employees who visited the White House for Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.

The children asked Mrs. Obama about life in the White House, her campaign against childhood obesity, the White House garden - and whether she could make school recesses longer. She dodged that last one.

One detail she shared: The playlist on her iPod includes songs by Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Rihanna, Beyonce, Usher and Sting.

15 YouTube Killer Features of 2025

In the year 2025, perhaps we’ll be seeing:
1. YouTube Super Zoom

What it is: When watching a video, you can press the pause button and zoom in on smaller stuff you see in the background. For example, we see a mayor walking through a museum, and there’s a painting by Vermeer in the background. Hit pause and the zoom icon, and click on the Vermeer painting, which is highlighted with a “zoomable” color (as are some other objects in the scene). It will be enlarged up to the point where you can see individual paint strokes.

How it works: Google’s image comparison engine will run in the background as soon as you select the zoom tool. For instance, the comparison engine will notice that images of the region containing Vermeer’s Milkmaid are available in many other places all over the web, like museum sites which have super large imagery. Google will merge those images to create an authoritative larger image, making user zooms feasible.
2. YouTube Speech Dubbing

What it is: When you watch a foreign language short film on YouTube, the voices will automatically be dubbed into the language of your current content preference. You won’t even notice people aren’t speaking your mother tongue.

How it works: Behind the scenes, Google’s YouTube runs a speech-to-text program, followed by machine translation, followed by text-to-speech. To make the outcome more seamless, face recognition understands who is speaking and slightly adjusts the lip movements of the speaker so that it looks like the person really says the translated tone.
3. YouTube Music Composer

What it is: You’re an amateur film maker. You created a thrilling, low-budget short film, but you don’t have any money (or the needed talent) to add a great music score. You click “Compose music”, and YouTube suggests a complete, copyright-free soundtrack to you. You check the score and possibly tweak the results where needed, and go live with your short film.

How it works: By analyzing light, pace, speech patterns – does the speaker sound nervous, happy, stressed, relaxed? – and more, YouTube’s AI music composer engine automatically creates a score. Most of the “smartness” of the algorithm is actually brute force: YouTube analyzes millions of movies and their respective scores, and compares what the visuals of your clip at a specific time most likely resembles. It then merges and distorts music from the scores found, adjust harmonies and rythm, and attaches it to your clip. The music distortion is just substantial enough so that no music composer can sue Google for ripping off their piece.
4. YouTube 3D Rotation

What it is: You’re viewing a clip with an interesting building in the background. You can hit the pause button and then rotate the building, showing it from different sides.

How it works: Google’s all-encompassing Street View cameras collect 3D data from all kinds of scenery. They also match objects from photos snapped from different angles found all over the web. When a matching image is found in the video, it’s connected to its 3D counterpart to allow you to rotate it.
5. YouTube’s I’m A Star

What it is: You send a film clip of a famous Hitchcock movie scene to a friend. Your friend sees you being attacked by a bunch of scary birds, with Tippi Hedren screaming for your life!

How it works: You can pick any movie available at YouTube. Many full-length movies, like all of Hitchcock’s work, have passed into the public domain by now, allowing creative remixing and more. You click the “I’m A Star” button, and let your webcam snap a few portraits of you. Google’s face recognition will then show you a selection of actors of the movie. You click on Rod Taylor, and instantly have his face be replaced with yours across all of the movie.
6. YouTube’s Clipteller

What it is: Atop every video there’s a “Clipteller” tab. Click it, and the contents of the clip will be explained to you in story form – both in plain text, as well as a voice reading the text – complete with descriptions of what’s happening in every scene, dialogue and so on. This creates very accessible videos, and it’s also content which in turn gets indexed by Google, ready for full-text searching.

How it works: Google’s film analysis algorithms have become so smart, they know what’s happening. If a train is driving by in a scene, the algos will understand the object “train”, the action “passing by”, they will be able to categorize the sound into “train sounds” and so on. From that information, an AI creates a textual description, which is then “beautified” by comparing it with typical story writing patterns, found in the millions of books which Google scanned.
7. YouTube’s Filmmaker

What it is: Filmmaker lets you edit a video, apply filters, crop, tweak and mash videos at your pleasure. You can add titles and special effects, like an explosion. You can even choose from a variety of famous actors to play along in your video.

How it works: Filmmaker is an app sitting in the browser, with no further downloads necessary, thanks to the power of HTML9. It integrates with mobile phone cameras and so on so that making short movies becomes very casual. Based on old films, which Google all digitized, Filmmaker allows you to pick from a vast range of classic actors, which are all available as smart 3D avatars. This way you can tell Arnold Schwarzenegger to jump off a balcony and then let the house behind him explode. (Arnold will get a share of your ad revenues from movie displays.)
8. YouTube’s GeoFilter

What it is: Depending on the location of the video viewer, you’ll only see scenes which are legal per your government’s rules. For instance, if violent movies are illegal in your country, then the scene which would contain a sword fight will be replaced with a ballet scene. Similarly, if demonstrating for free speech rights is illegal in your country, then a news report showing a demonstration will turn into coverage of a baseball game.

How it works: Google’s YouTube offers all governments an API to feed them their legalese and religious preferences in simple terms, like “May contain violence”, “May not contain demonstrations” and so on. When a user visits YouTube, their location is known by their IP, and YouTube – the AI of which understands the actual content of a clip – compares with the legalese API data to understand which scenes should be replaced. Replaced scenes are either taken from other, copyright-free videos, or re-enacted using YouTube’s smart 3D objects and avatars.
9. YouTube Change the Cam

What it is: When watching an archived news report on YouTube – say, a press conference by the president – a camera symbol shows up in the bottom of the video. Click it, and the same press conference will be displayed from another camera angle.

How it works: YouTube checks, rather fuzzily, if the specific audio track of a clip has matches in other clips. If it finds other clips, it checks if the video differs substantially. If that’s the case then YouTube figures it’s the same scene shown from a different angle.
10. YouTube Shut Out the Kids

What it is: YouTube allows you to switch on a setting so that kids won’t be able to see certain content, like brutal kung fu movies.

How it works: It doesn’t really work, because kids end up outsmarting their parents and blocking them from seeing anything. YouTube cancels this feature after a two week trial and creates a support hotline for confused parents.
11. YouTube AutoRatings

What it is: Every clip is assigned a rating expressing how funny it is, how dramatic, how brutal, how sad, how romantic and so on. Nobody manually sets these ratings, though. You can then search, for instance, for a movie that’s funny but thrilling, and get back a comedy action buddy movie.

How it works: A great number of voluntarily participating YouTube users have their webcam turned on whenever they surf the web, including YouTube. A small program implemented in Google’s browser recognizes the face and parses the facial emotion, and also listens to the user voice. If you smile, the cam will know, and attach that emotion (happiness/ funny/ good) to the individual video clip or other page you’re on. This in turn helps them identify the emotions a particular clip or web page triggers, which then helps them deliver better web search and YouTube clip search results. (SEO spammers quickly learn to abuse this feature by paying large crowds of people to visit their websites with a forced smile.)
12. YouTube Social Network

What it is: Google turns YouTube into a giant social network, based on videos you viewed.

How it works: Similar to the Gmail Buzz program, Google connects everybody to everybody else, ignoring certain privacy details for a while. People will be shocked and complain about how their viewing habits are suddenly connected to their web search history and email address book, so Google will refine their opt-out setting, but at that point millions of users have already been connected, and Facebook is dead.
13. YouTube FindYourProduct

What it is: A company, like the Coca Cola Company, can enter their product – “bottle of coke” – and find videos of people happily consuming their product. They can then add their banners to the side of that video, or create lotteries where everyone consuming their product has a chance to win big money, or they can simply analyze consumer behavior.

How it works: A straightforward image recognition is the basis of FindYourProduct. YouTube content creators later understand that they can make more money by strategically placing products inside their videos – because this will get them better ads, and a chance to win in the product lotteries – so YouTube is flooded with lots of grassroots product placement.
14. YouTube 3D

What it is: You can view any film on YouTube in 3D. Even without special glasses, and without the respective film being shot in 3D.

How it works: Based on a patent by Matt Cutts, Google’s algos analyze depth layers in clips by checking movements and generating a pseudo-3D scenery out of it, extrapolating existing visuals with a lot of guess work. Using a very complicated Subpixel Rendering Blinking Effect built into the Google Chrome OS for that purpose – lucky Google, as their major OS market share allows them to roll out whatever browser feature they need for their web sites – the movie transform into 3D.
15. YouTube Smell the Vid

What it is: Once activated, a scene in a movie will smell just like it would if you were there. If the movie protagonist is on a fishing hunt on his boat then you’ll smell the salt water and the fish. If the protagonist of a romantic movie puts on perfume, you will know its brand without seeing.

How it works: The Google Chrome Pad computer will have an odor emitter. Just like speakers emit sounds, this piece of hardware emits smell, by mixing different base fragrances to create e.g. cinnamon, strawberry, salt water and so on. Websites can define these fragrances in their stylesheets. YouTube on the other hand automatically analyzes video clip content semantics, and emits the needed fragrances, outputting them in real-time.
16. YouTube’s Just Let Me Watch the Movie, OK?

What it is: The “Just Let Me Watch the Movie, OK?” setting (JLMWMovie-OK), once activated, will show a movie as it was actually intended to be seen by its director.

How it works: JLMWMovie-OK is rather simple: activate it, and the killer features 1 to 15 as mentioned above will be deactivated. The artistic integrity of the movie is preserved, and you can lean back with a pack of popcorn and actually just enjoy the video.

Google released Street View imagery for Hong Kong. Hong Kong is a fun and busy place where it’s easy to get lost, perhaps less so with these photo maps.

Reader Play, Google’s Slideshow of Interesting Stuff

OK, I can see myself waste some time with this. Google Reader Play is a casual, push style way to feed yourself distracting/ enlightening/ inspiring snippets, imagery and videos. You can star a specific page, Like it or share it, but just jumping from page to page using the bottom navigation works too.

Note Reader Play is personalized. Google writes, “We use the technology behind Recommended Items in Reader to populate Reader Play with the most interesting content on the web. While you don’t need a Google account to use Reader Play, your experience will be personalized if you sign in.” Google says that “Reader Play adapts to your tastes” (click Like, and more stuff like that should appear, Google suggests).

You can also set this app to auto-play, which sort of clashes with specific YouTube videos though... it would have been smarter to wait until a video ended playing before moving to the next bit. Now, I noticed that the actual source or author of a particular piece ends up as a kind of by-the-way footnote in this stream of stuff – even clicking on the “from” link will merely load that blog into Reader Play, and not open the source site – but I guess that might be the way of RSS and/ or the future.

No, we can’t translate "Yes we can"
By Roger Browne

Ten years ago, the best-available translation software analysed the source text to determine its structure: subject, object, nouns, verbs, phrases, etc. From the structure tree, a new text could be generated in the target language.

The precise details of Google’s translation algorithms are not published, but the structure tree is not the main mechanism. Instead, there is a corpus – an enormous database of parallel works. These are works available in more than one language as a result of a previous human translation.

Based on equivalents found in the corpus, Google obtains translations for various multi-word fragments from the source text, then blends those together into what is usually a coherent sentence in the target language.

The system doesn’t work so well on fragments that weren’t translated in the corpus. For example, the phrase “Yes we can” was used prominently in Barack Obama’s election campaign, and was therefore included untranslated in many foreign language news reports. You can see this in a search for [obama “yes we can”] on google.de.

As a result, Google Translate is not always able to translate that phrase, even when used in a context unrelated to Barack Obama.

In a test I performed today, I found that the phrase “Yes we can” was not translated into these languages:

Catalan, Czech, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Portugese, Slovak, Spanish, Turkish.

It was translated into these languages:

Afrikaans, Albanian, Arabic, Belarusian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Croatian, Danish, Estonian, Filipino, Galician, Greek, Haitian, Hebrew, Hindi, Icelandic, Indonesian, Irish, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Malay, Maltese, Norwegian, Persian, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovenian, Swahili, Thai, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Welsh, Yiddish.

What can we conclude from this? Probably that the corpus for each language on the first list includes a higher proportion of Obama campaign reports than the corpus for any language on the second list.

Manny Pacquiao Certificate of Candidacy Filed

Manny Pacquiao Certificate of Candidacy Filed - Manny Pacquiao stands beside wife Jinky as he shows the certificate of candidacy for congress which he filed at the provincial capitol in Sarangani province, southern Philippines on Tuesday Dec. 1, 2009.

"If he has to run against an opponent, then he'll have to start campaigning for the May 10 election on March 25," Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum told The Los Angeles Times. "If that's the case, then Mayweather would have to be willing to fight March 13."

Pacquiao's opponent for the congressional seat is Roy Chiongbian, son of the former provincial governor and brother of the incumbent legislator for the district, Erwin Chiongbian. The rival's family built its fortune on domestic shipping.

Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Confirmation Video

Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Confirmation Video

Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Confirmation Video - Jim Monteverde interviews Teddy Atlas, Bert Sugar, Brian Kenny, Max Kellerman, and Bob Arum, as they provide the time and odds of the upcoming Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Fight.

Teddy Atlas: It's done. It's gonna be 1st week of May.

Bert Sugar: It's already made. It's an 8 to 5 Pacquiao favorite. It will be in the spring, that's all I can tell you (wink).

Brian Kenny: Floyd always say that if it makes dollars, it makes sense. This makes sense. I don't think either guy is trying to avoid the other. I think they are both wary, respectful of each other. But I think when they finally crunch the numbers, I think their egos, can step aside, and realize split it 50/50. 'Cause you gonna be splitting an all-time gate.

Max Kellerman: I won't make a prediction, about what's gonna happen. But I'll say that it will be the biggest fight in PPV history.

Bob Arum: There's one winner. Pacquiao by knockout.

Message from Manny Pacquiao November 26, 2009

So good day to you all again, to my dear countrymen, fans and subscriber of this column. I hope that you are in good condition like your humble servant, who even now is just healing the wounds suffered in the fight, who is still very happy because of the noticeable and visible joy in the faces of people on our victory ten days ago.

Its still like a dream, this win last November 14, the new and unique record of boxing - the seventh world title in seven different weight class. Its like I just woke up and conscious of my recollection that I just got that record in boxing that nobody has ever done in the whole history of the sport.

Who would have believe that we would beat the Goliath of boxing Miguel Angel Cotto, the champion in the welterweight division, who is expected to come in our fight stronger because he is younger, much bigger and taller than me.

This time again, as some of my previous fights, we proved that even if we are smaller in a fight, we are without equal in the size of a heart of a Filipino.

We proved that it is not just pure strength that we use in this sport but the intelligence and the psychology of fighting. Although I felt much pain, I was not obvious in the fight that I too was vulnerable to his punches.

Because of that, we made Cotto beleive that Manny Pacquiao was immune to any blow and we won in the end, 12th round match at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

We made all of this due to our tenacious faith in each other and our no-flicker belief in God Almighty, the source and origin of all the blessings we received as one nation and one tribe.

Because many believes that I can defeat the giants, like our win against Oscar Dela Hoya, Hatton and David Diaz, they now look up to Filipinos around the world. Because of our unity of will inside our room and theaters to watch a pay-per-view, I am now considered as the best boxer in the face of the earth and ahead of the formerly known as king of the ring Floyd Mayweather Jr.

We proved more popular and more followed on our fight with Cotto even though neither of us became arrogant or loud just so can we can sell our show. Instead, we restored the good image of boxing as a gentleman's sport. Large praise and grateful to Miguel Cotto on his being gentleman even in the midst of defeat. I salute Mr. Cotto for making our fight one of the best fights of the year, if not the best.

Until the next Combinations. God Bless Us All.

Message from Manny Pacquiao November 19, 2009

Now that I have celebrated my victory in Vegas and in Los Angeles I am just really looking forward to celebrating with my Country and all my Filipino fans. I am flying home today and can not wait to enjoy the parade and an all the people that come out to cheer the victory.

I understand that a lot of people want to know if I want to fight Floyd Mayweather. The truth is of course I do. But right now I do not want to focus on that. I want to enjoy my victory as it was the hardest fight I have ever been in. Man could Cotto hit hard. My ear and eyes are still healing from some of the hard blows. Once I am done celebrating this victory and resting with my family my promotional company will have my next fight all planned out for me and whoever the fighter is I will want to fight them. I understand Floyd wants to start talking about it now, but he fought a month ago, so he has had time to celebrate, to relax. If the Mayweather fights happens with my promotions company it will be my biggest fight ever and I will be ready and be very happy to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr., but only if the terms are right and that is something for my promotions company to handle not me.

I wanted to give a special thank you to all my fans on mpboxing.com and mannypacquiao.ph thank you for all your support a special thank you to Rocky "Sylvestor Stallone" for wishing me luck right before the fight. I love using that song walking in, as Rocky is one of my hero's and his movies really inspired me to become the person I am today.

Manny Pacquiao Wants to Fight Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Nov 18, 2009

Manny Pacquiao Wants to Fight Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Manny Pacquiao Wants to Fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. - Right after Manny Pacquiao won the fight against Miguel Cotto, Mayweather in an interview issued a challenge to Pacquiao:

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: He's a fighter, what does he want to do? I want him to step on the camera, on the world. I don't want him to get behind the scene, and tell an article in the Philippines 'I want to fight Mayweather.' When you get on the camera, and they ask you a certain question, that's when you say it."

Obviously, Mayweather doesn't know that Pacquiao was recorded in the camera on various occasions in 2009, saying that he wants to fight Mayweather.

So Emmy award-winner Cher Calvin, a reporter for the Los Angeles TV station KTLA, took to the task, and asked the question to Manny Pacquiao directly, right before his Highlands Holywood Victory Party.

Cher Calvin: For the record, do you want to fight Mayweather?

Manny Pacquiao: For the record, yeah.

Here's the video:

Floyd Mayweather Jr. Interview After Manny Pacquiao vs Cotto

Nov 16, 2009

Floyd Mayweather Jr. Interview After Manny Pacquiao vs Cotto

Floyd Mayweather Jr. Interview After Manny Pacquiao vs Cotto - Here's the full 25 minutes video and complete transcript of the Sky Sports interview of Floyd Mayweather Jr. right after Manny Pacquiao win over Miguel Cotto.

Adam Smith: So what do you think of the fight?

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: Miguel Cotto at one particular time was one of the best welterweights. But him fighting Margarito, took a lot out of him. Him with another war with Zab Judah, and with Clottey, he's been a lot of wars lately. So I don't think he's the same Miguel Cotto. Not taking away from him, he still can beat certain fighters in the sports of boxing, but I don't think he's the same Miguel Cotto.

Adam Smith: How impressed were you with Manny Pacquiao?

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: Manny Pacquiao went out there and done what he has to do. The only thing I can say is he's a fighter, just like I'm a fighter. The thing is with Pacquiao, I don't see any versatility as a fighter with Manny Pacquiao. I see a good puncher but just one-dimensional.

Adam Smith: Do you think he executed the perfect game plan? Because people are saying that he was sensational.

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: I don't think it was the same Miguel Cotto. Me, and myself, when I fought guys like Marquez, the same way I went into the fight, is the same way I go out. You go watch Marquez and Pacquiao, you see the same way Pacquiao went in is not the same way he went out.

What I do to fighters is they say is boring, is because I'm just that much better to the fighters. They gonna say 'Oh, it was a boring fight,' because I didn't get beat up, and take punishment. There's nothing cool about getting beat up, and taking punishment. Making a ton of money, but not being able to spend your money in the long run.

Adam Smith: Manny Pacquiao has gone through the weights, 5 world champion. And all the talk now, is the two of you fighting it off, what happens?

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: Fans see what they want to see. When Erik Morales was washed-up, he's the same guy that beat Manny Pacquiao. Erik Morales beat Manny Pacquiao after being beat by Zahir Raheem.

They talk about him coming from 106. Manny Pacquiao was 16 when he weigh 106, just like me. I was fighting at 106, I was just an amateur. My dad could have turned me pro, and guided my career, if that was the case, but it didn't happen.

Marquez, he fought him to a draw, then he struggled with Marquez.

He fought an Oscar de la Hoya that I already beat. When I fought Oscar de la Hoya, they choose the gloves for me. You never heard of a fighter choosing a gloves for another fighter in a championship fight, I wasn't even able to choose my own gloves. Now you take Manny Pacquiao, Oscar de la Hoya went down to welterweight, a weight he hasn't made in 9 years.

Ricky Hatton, he keep balooning up in weight, and then coming down. He baloon up to welterweight and then the fight with Pacquiao, he has to go down 7 more pounds. That really tear up the body. I beat Ricky Hatton when he was undefeated.

I beat Oscar de la Hoya for the junior middleweight title after him coming off a very impressive win over Ricardo Mayorga. His career has revived and rehabiliated himself when he came back.

Once I beat Marquez, he's over the hill. Marquez and Manny Pacquiao is the same size. Like I said before, I'm always in a no-win situation.

If the fight every happens with me and Manny Pacquiao and when I beat him, people are not gonna be surprised because he's been beat before. Whatever I do to Pacquiao has been done before, he's been beat before on three occasions. And if I knock him out I don't want the world shouting because he's been knocked out twice before. So it's nothing new.

The world's going to go 'wow' if Floyd Mayweather gets beat. That's what everyone is looking to see. I'm a fighter who's never been beat. What's going on now at the world of boxing is they're trying to build a fighter, they're trying to make a fighter that can beat me.

I don't get no respect in the world of boxing. I do my interviews, you got different fighters that disrespect me, and come in on my interviews, which is not fair. Now Manny Pacquiao when he does his interviews, he can do his interviews for 20 minutes, then they go interview his trainers, and the rest of the people in his team. Now, with me, they interview me, they got guys jumping in, being very disrespectful. The only thing I've done was change the sports of boxing.

If Floyd Mayweather fought Oscar de la Hoya in the 2nd fight, then you will never hear about Manny Pacquiao. Things happen like this in the sports of boxing.

Adam Smith: While you are away, Manny Pacquiao has made a certain claim of becoming pound for pound best.

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: He beat up a washed up Erik Morales. He beat up a washed up Barrera, 'cause Barrera and Morales beat each other up half to death. When he fought Marquez, he really lost in the 2nd fight. In the first fight, he knocked 'em down three times in 1st round, and still got a draw, so he got outboxed.

Oscar de la Hoya, I already beat him. Ricky Hatton, I already knocked him out. And then Cotto getting a brutal fight with Margarito, a tough fight with Clottey, a tough fight with Zab Judah. Now where does we stand with this?

It's easy for Bob Arum to say, Pacquiao wants to fight Mayweather. It's easy for Freddie Roach to say, Pacquiao wants to fight Mayweather. The fans say 'Yeah we want Manny Pacquiao fight Floyd Mayweather.' But on 2 occassions, when he fought Ricky Hatton, when they asked Manny Pacquiao 'would you like to fight Floyd Mayweather' he said talk to my promoter; they didn't ask your promoter, they asked you, what do you want to do? Manny Pacquiao was asked the same question 'do you want to fight Floyd Mayweather' three times. This is something the world is trying to force on him. If he wants to fight Floyd Mayweather all he has to do is step up to the plate.

It's gonna be tough negotiating with Bob Arum, caused once again, how can you possibly negotiate with a guy (I don't know if this is true facts or not) who when Oscar de la Hoya fought Felix Trinidad, Bob Arum made more money than both of the fighters. We're supposed to be in the sports for the fighters.

I deserved a bigger piece of the pie. I've done more. I've been in the sport longer, and I've been dominating. And nobody has beat me yet.

So, once again, they're trying to build a fighter to beat me. They built Ricky Hatton up undefeated, it didn't happen. They constantly built this fighter up, it's not gonna happen. When guys wants me to lose, that's when I lose.

Adam Smith: Do you want to fight Pacquiao?

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: What I want to do is dominate the sports of boxing. I'm not dodging nobody. If Pacquiao is the man next, he step up to the plate, that's another ass I got to tap. I'm not ducking and dodging. If Pacquiao want it, he can get it. Come on man I don't have to say, 'Oh I want to fight Pacquiao.' Floyd Mayweather is the face of boxing. All roads lead to Floyd Mayweather.

Adam Smith: So you're saying Pacquiao picks up the phone and talk to you, then you talk?

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: Here's what Pacquiao said. He fights for the people, he fights for belts, he fights for legacy. That's the same thing Shane Mosley said. That's the same thing all this fighters say, they fight for legacy.

Well, me I'm in the cheque cashing business. My whole career, I fought to be pound for pound, and I fought to get belts. You know I'm 32 years old. Talking about fighting for legacy, that's out of the door man.

Adam Smith: Are you saying you're not worried about loosing the 0, the lost?

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: If I go out and make $60-75 million in one night, come on, I'm not losing. Manny Pacquiao, he knows as a fighter, when he's facing me. You see what happens to Marquez, it was a cakewalk for me. It was like a father, playing with his young son. Agile, very, very smart, very, very intelligent. I've been in the sport of boxing a long time. He knows when he's facing me.

I'm not saying Cotto is not a good fighter, flat-footed, been in a lot of wars. I haven't taken a lot of punishment. There's nothing cool about taking punishment. 'Oh, I beat this guy up he beat me up. I got a swell eye, a rip lip, bloody nose, a broken rib, made a few million, and my hand got raised.' There's nothing cool about taking punishment.

Floyd Mayweather beat 13 world champions, 6 time world champion, in 5 different weight classes, and won official belts, the WBC belt. Never used enhancement drugs, like a lot of this fighters. I beat fighters at official weight classes. I move up to 130, no different than Manny Pacquiao. Manny Pacquiao weigh 106 when he was 16, just like Floyd Mayweather, weigh 106 when he was 16."

My career is fine, what's so cool is I can take no punishment, no bumps, no bruises. When my career is over I have a job as a commentator, and I will be a great promoter. That's the great thing about my career, I can't speak for other fighter.

Adam Smith: Do you think Pacquiao will get punished by you?

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: What's understood ain't got to be talked about. If he really wants to fight, they asked him on two diferent occasions. They asked him three times.

They never asked me on interviews. 10 minutes, 15 minutes. They never interview Leonard Ellerbe after the interview or nobody from my team. They don't get me no respect that they give other fighters.

Adam Smith: What's gonna happens next?

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: Floyd Mayweather wanna be treated fair. Oscar de la Hoya, they try to be slick. I didn't complain. It's always an excuse. Skills pays the bils. See, they don't talk weight class when they talk about Oscar de la Hoya. I weigh 150, he weigh 154.

If Marquez weight 142 and I weigh 146, why is it a problem all of a sudden now? They say Manny Pacquiao and Marquez is the same size. Then they say I'm too big for Marquez, but I'm not too big for Pacquiao. I'm in a no-win situation. If I beat Manny Pacquiao, do you know what they are going to say? 'You are supposed to beat him, you are Floyd Mayweather, you are the bigger man'. If I knock him out they'll say 'you're supposed to knock him out he's been knocked out before'.

Adam Smith: Who do you want fight now?

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: I don't know. I don't have to say 'Oh, yeah, I want to fight this guy, I wanna fight that guy.' I'm the king. I've done millions of homes by myself. Now, we got Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto, two guys who has a pretty cool fan base. Now if they done more home that Mayweather, then more power to them, but they're supposed to. I don't have no dance partner.

Floyd Mayweather is an entertainer. This guys are just fighters. Pacquiao he's just a fighter. Miguel Cotto, he's just a fighter. Floyd Mayweather is an entertainer. I can go out the sports of boxing and make millions, because I've done this before.

If it's Pacquiao, he can get it. He knows deep in his heart he can't beat me.

If it's Shane Mosley. They gonna say 'whoope doo, you beat Shane Mosley, he's 38 with 5 lost.' Why you picking on an old man. I'm always in a no-win situation.

If I beat Pacquiao, 'Oh, you're the bigger man.' If I outbox him, so slick and punish him, with a dominating performance, 'you didn't knock him out.' If I do knock him out, 'Oh, you're supposed to knock him out. You're the bigger man.' I'm always in a no-win situation, no matter who I beat.

Adam Smith: You have 40 fights, how long are you gonna carry this on?

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: I don't know, if it's Pacquiao, he can get it. They say Manny Pacquiao wants to fight you. That's Bob Arum talking. Bob Arum cares about Bob Arum only. Freddie Roach his sickness is getting worst, so he gotta cash out, as quick and as soon as possible. The only road that he knows Manny Pacquiao gonna make most money is with Floyd Mayweather

Zab Judah, made his most money with Floyd Mayweather. Baldomir made his most money with Floyd Mayweather. Oscar de la Hoya made his most money with Floyd Mayweather. Marquez made his most money with Floyd Mayweather. And the list goes on and on.

Adam Smith: Fighting Manny Pacquiao surely gonna generate millions of dollars.

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: Floyd Mayweather is a very, very smart businessman. With or without Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather is gonna be with 200 million dollars. Because he's such a great businessman, and has such a great business team. It takes a smart businessman to sorround himself with smart business people.

The thing with Manny Pacquiao, at this particular point, he's paying two different promoters. He's paying Golden Boy, and he's paying Bob Arum. There's never a contract that Manny Pacquiao, didn't like.

Adam Smith: What's more important to you, money or boxing legacy?

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: Kids can't eat legacy. Cheques is more important at this particular point in time. I'm already a legend in the sport. I'm already an icon in the sport. I fight for me first. When my career is done, I can't go to my fans and say, 'I need you to pay my light bills. I need you to put my kids in college.' I have responsibility to take care of my family in the long run. What's most important now is the cheques, 'cause I'm in the cheque cashing business.

Adam Smith: You don't make enough money?

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: I wanna make some more.

Adam Smith: For your kids?

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: For me and my kids. Why not? If I can be in this business to break the bank, why not?

'Cause when its all said and done, I can't come to you. You're not gonna pay 'em. Manny Pacquiao is not gonna pay 'em. I have to pay that.

I have to do it for me first. Me. I come first, self-preservation. I come first. I gotta take care of me.

If legacy is so important for fighters. Muhammad Ali sold his legacy for 50 million. To do what, to get money. 'Cause I feel bad for Muhammad Ali in that situation. He's a legendary fighter. It's not cool to be in that predicament, to get 50 million, and that be able to spend your money, like you wanna spend your money. And you want to enjoy yourself.

Adam Smith: If you walk away next time, will it be for good?

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: I don't know, I can't say. If it's still inside me, I come back.

Adam Smith: Would you retire undefeated?

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: We don't know what the future holds for Floyd Mayweather. Can Manny Pacquiao beat me? Absolutely not. Easy work. Easy fight. Probably, easier than the Marquez fight.

Adam Smith: Get it on then. That's what the world wants.

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: It's easy for you. 'Cause you work for Sky TV. You know you gonna pick-up the fight, and you're gonna make a ton of money. So, guess what? So, of course, you're gonna say "get it on."

Everybody is gonna make money from this fight. HBO is gonna say 'let's get it on. You are gonna say let's get it on.' People are gonna know what its gonna generates. As simple as that.

LAST WORDS

I don't let Bob Arum bait me in, just so he can make a lot of money. I don't let Freddie Roach bait me, just 'cause he want to make a lot of money. I don't let my team around me say, 'Oh, Floyd, everybody wants me and you Pacquiao fight.' Okay, that's cool.

He's a fighter, what does he want to do? I want him to step on the camera, on the world. I don't want him to get behind the scene, and tell an article in the Philippines 'I want to fight Mayweather.' When you get on the camera, and they ask you a certain question, that's when you say it."

My team don't have to fight for me, so what they're saying is useless basically. What his team is saying is useless. Because it's up to Mayweather and Pacquiao.

If he want to fight for legacy and not worried about the money, then let Leonard Ellerbe and Al Haymon make the deal, and Manny Pacquiao let's fight.

Adam Smith: Do you think he will?

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: I don't know. Do I want it? Absolutely. But do we wanna fight, we don't know. I already know what I bring to the table.

There's only one fighter who is great in my era, that's myself.

The fighters that they called "so-called great." There's only one great fighter in my era, and that's myself. But there's a lot of good fighters.

I look back at my fighters in my era. Bernard Hopkins, for instance. He beat De la Hoya which was a small man. He beat Trinidad which was a small man. He beat Winky Wright, which was a small man. When he did fight somebody that was his weight, he got beat by Roy Jones, and he got beat by Calzaghe. And then he got beat by Jermaine Taylor twice.

And then they say one of the legends of this era. Come on man, that makes no sense.

Manny Pacquiao After Fight Party Concert Video at Mandalay Bay

Manny Pacquiao After Fight Party Concert Video at Mandalay Bay - One week before the fight, Pacquiao invited everyone to the Manny Pacquiao After Fight Party at The Highlands of Hollywood. Some said that he was brave, while others think that he's overconfident.

Well, Pacquiao won his match against Cotto, and in hindsight, those who think his confidence is not misplace, but a positive trait to nurture, is right.

The $40 ticket concert was held two hours after his win against Miguel Cotto. Even with swollen ear wrapped in bandage, his head covered with a fedora, he still managed to sing eight songs with a backing band together with guests Lito Camo, Martin Nievera, and “Britain’s Got Talent’s” semi-finalist Madonna Decena whose career the boxer is managing via his promotional team.

Here's a short snippets of his post-fight concert video:

Manny Pacquiao Post Fight Press Conference Video

ON BEING AN ALL-TIME GREAT BOXER

Bob Arum: "I will go on the record, and say that I really believe that Manny Pacquiao is the best fighter I've ever seen. That includes Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler. The best fighter I've ever seen."

Pacquiao: "I think I'm just an ordinary fighter."

Roach: "You're not ordinary."

"He's as good as any of them. He's the greatest fighter of this era that's for sure."

ON FIGHTING MIGUEL COTTO ON THE ROPES

Roach:"I yelled at him every time: Why are you fighting his fight?"

"I can handle it, Manny told me."

Pacquiao: "The first three rounds I tried to measure his power. I'm trying to fight toe-to-toe. Of course I respect Cotto, but his camp they were always saying he was bigger and stronger. I wanted to let him know who was stronger and tougher in that ring."

“Our plan and strategy for the fight was not to hurry. We knew he was going to counter. We were very careful because we didn’t know what will happen.”

"I tried to pretend that it's not going to hurt. But it really hurts."

"It was one of the toughest fights in my boxing years. I took a lot of punches from Cotto. He's strong and he hits hard. It was all about being smart in the ring and pretending not to be hurt when you really are."

"I was trying to control the fight. In my mind."

MIGUEL COTTO MESSAGE

Cotto: “I didn’t see where the punches were coming from."

“I fought everybody. Manny is one of the best boxers of all time.”

Munger: IG report chides DOE for U-233 project woes

The Department of Energy's Inspector General this week released an audit report critical of the agency's management of the uranium-233 down-blending and disposition project in Oak Ridge. The report cited the project's growing cost and continuing uncertainties.

The project, which is still in the design phase, is supposed to process about 1.4 metric tons of uranium stored at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The uranium stockpile contains significant quantities of fissionable U-233 - a strategic nuclear material - with highly radioactive decay products that make the project complex and potentially dangerous. The current cost estimate is about $477 million.

The IG's findings are not too dissimilar from some of those outlined recently by John Eschenberg, DOE's new environmental management chief in Oak Ridge. The biggest difference is that Eschenberg blamed many of the problems on the contractor, Isotek, while the IG report tends to criticize DOE's Environmental Management program folks for letting the situation get in the shape that it's in.

"Problems with Federal leadership of the project, at least in part, contributed to delays in completing design and establishing a viable cost baseline," the audit report said. "For example, after the direction to abandon thorium-229 extraction, EM had not ensured that the contract with Isotek was consistent with the new scope of work, a situation that impacted its ability to hold the contractor accountable. Further, since taking over the project in 2005, EM had assigned 5 different Federal project directors with 4 different managers involved in the first 22 months of the project. The frequency of change in leadership contributed to EM not providing a timely review of the contractor's preliminary design."

n For the first time in three years, ORNL's High Flux Isotope Reactor did not start up on time following refueling and maintenance.

Friday's restart was two days later than scheduled because of an error found in a computer code used for safety analyses.

Ron Crone, the research reactors chief at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, said an error was found in a one of the four computer codes used to assess safety issues related to reactor's thermal hydraulics. The code was scheduled to be updated by June, but DOE regulations required that the error be fixed immediately, he said.

"It was a very minor error, but honestly in our culture we take these things very conservatively," Crone said. "We were very certain from the time we found the error that this would not be an impact. But there is a process to follow."

The 85-megawatt research reactor had been shut down since Jan. 30 for maintenance and refueling, and Crone said the code error was discovered during the outage.

Scientists who use the High Flux Isotope Reactor for experiments were notified of the problem, and Crone said the impact was "minimal." However, it was the first time in three years - since a Cold Source was installed to enhance the research capabilities - that the reactor failed to start up on its scheduled date, he said.

"Everybody was somewhat disappointed," he said.

Some reactor employees were added to the weekend shift to assist those working on neutron-scattering experiments, and a few ORNL researchers reportedly adjusted their schedules to let visiting scientists - some of whom scheduled their visits to Oak Ridge months in advance - have priority on the research instruments.

Kobe returns and sinks Grizzlies, 99-98

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP)—Hitting a game-winning shot never gets old for Kobe Bryant(notes).

“Every time it feels like the first time,” he said.

Bryant returned to lineup after missing five games with an ankle injury and made a 3-pointer with 4.3 seconds left to lift the Los Angeles Lakers to 99-98 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies Tuesday night.

Bryant led the Lakers with 32 points, including his team’s final nine points. His 3-pointer with 54 seconds left tied the game at 96-all. His game-winner came off an inbounds play 4 seconds after his layup attempt was blocked by Rudy Gay(notes).

“He kept making plays at the end of the game,” Memphis coach Lionel Hollins said of Bryant. “Great players make great plays. You’ve got to give him his due (but) it hurts.”

Bryant’s late scoring spree came after the Lakers had missed five straight free throws and trailed, 95-90, with 2:59 left. He began his nine-point run with a jumper from the left wing with 2:23 to go to trim the Memphis lead to 95-92.

After Gay’s free throw, Bryant dropped in a technical free throw to make it 96-93. Gay scored again with 40 seconds left to up the Grizzlies lead to 98-93 before Bryant’s back-to-back 3-pointers won it for the Lakers.

“Only in Hollywood, I guess,” Bryant said. “It’s fun. It’s my responsibility to make plays down the stretch. I enjoy it.”

Pau Gasol(notes) added 22 points and 13 rebounds for the Lakers, who won for the seventh time in their last eight road games.

“Nobody in the world is shocked anymore by what Kobe Bryant does and what he brings to the team,” Gasol said. “He really stepped up at the end. It feels good to have him back.”

The Grizzlies, who lost their fifth straight home game, were led by O.J. Mayo’s(notes) 25 points. Zach Randolph(notes) scored 20 and grabbed 14 rebounds, his seventh straight double-double.

Mayo’s two missed free throws with 18.8 seconds allowed the Lakers an opportunity to complete a comeback from nine points down early in the fourth quarter. Had Mayo made his free throws, the Grizzlies would have led by four.

“I’d love to take those last two free throws again,” Mayo said. “I’d love to take them and make them.”

Mayo had a last-second opportunity to win it for the Grizzlies, but his long jumper bounced off the rim as the buzzer sounded.

Absent from the Lakers lineup for his longest stretch in five years, Bryant scored nine points in the opening quarter, including a four-point play, and triggered a late first-quarter run with two breakaway dunks to increase the Lakers lead to 11.

Bryant last played Feb. 5 and Los Angeles went 4-1 without him.

The Grizzlies took their first lead early in the third quarter on a 3-pointer by Mayo for a 59-56 advantage and didn’t trail again until Bryant’s game-winning shot.

Bryant, averaging 42.5 points against Memphis in two previous games this season, began his late nine-point run with a jumper from the left wing with 2:23 to go to trim the Memphis lead to 95-92.

With Bryant scoring 17 of his points in the first half, the Lakers built several 14-point leads before settling for a 53-48 halftime advantage.

“We gave ourselves an opportunity to win the game,” Hollins said. “But Kobe was better. That’s the bottom line.”

NOTES: Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph broke Pau Gasol’s single-season franchise record for offensive rebounds (238). Playing in his 56th game of the season, Randolph grabbed four offensive rebounds to increase his total to 242. Gasol played for Memphis from 2001 and 2008… . Th

e game attracted the third sellout (18,119) to the FedExForum this season.

Undercover informant facing deportation wins stay

NEW YORK – An Argentine man who worked for years as an undercover informant for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, only to be detained by his handlers and face imminent deportation as an illegal immigrant, has been granted a reprieve.

Emilio Maya's request for a stay of deportation was granted after U.S. Rep. Maurice Hinchey, D-NY, submitted a rare private bill in Congress requesting that Maya, 34, and his 30-year-old sister, Analia, be granted legal status.

The Mayas, who entered the U.S. as visitors in the 1990s and stayed, ran a small cafe in the Hudson River town of Saugerties, in Hinchey's district. Emilio was a volunteer firefighter, and Analia served as a Spanish-language interpreter for the local police, a contact that led them to ICE.

They were introduced to the world of confidential informants through a friend, police officer Sidney Mills. Hoping to help the siblings work toward legal residency status, Mills set up their original meeting with ICE agents in 2005 and was present for some of their undercover jobs.

For the next four years, the Mayas said, they risked their safety working long hours undercover. Wearing wires, they infiltrated a prostitution ring, worked in a factory that hired undocumented workers and provided information on human smuggling operations and gangs.

However, according to the Mayas, instead of receiving the promised "S" visa, which could lead to permanent legal status, ICE informed them last year that their information was no longer useful and they could be deported.

"After being treated unfairly for so long and being threatened with immediate deportation, the Maya family today received some long-awaited positive news," Hinchey said when the stay was announced late Thursday.

An elated Analia shouted "that is fantastic news" in a phone interview and immediately started planning an elaborate celebration at the cafe, called Tango.

The plight of the Mayas drew international attention after an Associated Press article on Sunday detailed their story.

Although they had promised ICE never to talk publicly about their work, the siblings said they turned to Hinchey out of desperation and fear.

The congressman, who occasionally has lunch at the cafe, intervened directly after Emilio was arrested last November and jailed for 15 days. He was not charged with a crime and was given little explanation except that he was "being deactivated."

Emilio was released after Hinchey personally called ICE, but was ordered to leave the country by March 2. Analia was ordered to attend a hearing in Immigration Court on March 5.

ICE has given no explanation for its handling of the Mayas' case. ICE spokesman Brian Hale said earlier that the agency couldn't discuss any case involving informants, though he explained that in general, "there has to be a significant benefit to the government," in order for informants to receive legal papers.

Hale said Friday that he could not comment on the reprieve. The ICE letter informing Emilio of his stay, a copy of which was obtained by the AP, says it was granted pending the outcome of the Hinchey bill.

Private bills are occasionally used to provide relief from immigration laws for compelling cases. But there are complex rules governing their introduction and they are extremely difficult to pass. Still, Hinchey's office said that it was hopeful, regardless of the outcome of the bill, that the additional year would give it time to work with ICE to gain permanent status for the Mayas.
